Carbon Filtration..

There are two main types of carbon filter available. These are the carbon block filter and the granular activated carbon filters (also known as GAC). In general, carbon block filters are more effective at removing larger amounts of impurities, based upon the much larger surface area of carbon. However, GAC is better suited to larger systems with an emphasis on maintained/increased flow rate.

Many carbon block filters also use a secondary media, such as impregnated silver or KDF-55, to prevent bacteria growth within the filter and provide a bacteriostatic property.
